Since receiving my Real Estate license in 2012, I have been most attracted to residential real estate due to the relationships you develop with clients and the satisfaction of helping them meet their individual goals, whatever they may be. I do enjoy helping investors analyze and acquire investments. I provide ongoing property management if needed, manage my own investment properties, and I have placed local and national commercial tenants in leases as well as participated in commercial and business sales.
Here is how we got to here…
I was born in Atlanta Georgia but raised in Fairbanks from the age of 1, attending Denali Elementary and Lathrop High School. I entered the US Air Force in 1983 as an Air Traffic Controller, radar approach control and spent 9 years in Oklahoma at one of the Air Forces busiest pilot training facilitates.
While in the military I attended Northern Oklahoma College and co-managed my first business. From there, I was fortunate to have a few great business mentors and developed a passion for sales and business management, which I successfully pursued for almost two decades honing my financial, customer service, and negotiating skills.
I returned to my family in Fairbanks in 1993 and in 2000 joined an Alaskan Commercial Bank in operations, sales and management. Banking was a new career but, I quickly moved into Commercial Lending where I could use my understanding of business and management, as well as my financial and analytical skills to help businesses and investors. I loved having ongoing relationships with my customers, who were small to large businesses, all with unique challenges. I appreciated being part of their professional teams that helped them creatively solve problems and meet their needs and goals, through my advice and services. This period solidified how important long term professional relationships are and how beneficial they were to both parties. I also improved my overall skill-set with exposure to government compliance, general banking, more complex negotiating, creativity in lending, counseling business owners, and of course real estate, from the lending side.
Being in a smaller branch for over 10 years I did not specialize in a specific area. I was exposed to all facets of banking but, primarily commercial and construction lending. Most of the lending included real estate at some level, and post 2008 I regrettably participated in collections, foreclosures and the preservation of collateral, again including both commercial and residential real estate.
In 2010, I left banking for a new opportunity in Title and Escrow. I ended up as CEO/President of a subsidiary Title Company owned by First American Title, and reported to corporate headquarters through First American’s Northwest Division. This expanded my knowledge of Title/ Escrow and the business of real estate. It also gave me opportunity to work with and further understand large, international corporate business models and perspectives.
In July of 2012 I was recruited by Coldwell Banker because of my diverse background and on the premise of expanding their commercial abilities. With all the facets of my background, I found the transition to real estate fairly smooth and actually enjoyable. This was the beginning of SHARPTON REAL ESTATE GROUP, which I transitioned under the RE/MAX brand in early 2016.
